  • Jazz sounds warm up cool evening in Detroit - The Detroit International Jazz Festival kicked off on Friday, a windy, chilly night in downtown Detroit that inspired wiser souls to bring fleece jackets. But pianist Mulgrew Miller, who's spent a lot of time in Detroit over the summer as festival artist in residence, warmed the hearts of jazz lovers who flocked to Campus Martius Park with the line, "I'm falling in love with Detroit more every day."

  • Area Muslims distribute food, clothing to families in need - Detroit -- Area Muslims are expected to distribute food, clothing, school supplies and toys to up to 2,000 homeless people today as part of their observance of Ramadan.
  • 5 dead following single-car crash in Tuscola Co. - Koylton Township, Mich. -- Authorities say five people have died after the car they were riding in went off the road on a curve, struck a tree and flipped in Tuscola County.
  • Coast Guard helicopter saves 2 in Lake Michigan - Empire, Mich. -- A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew has rescued two kayakers from Lake Michigan near Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
  • Craigslist removes adult services section - Hartford, Conn. -- Craigslist has apparently closed the adult services section of its website, two weeks after 17 state attorneys general demanded it shut down the section.
  • Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera to sit out against Royals - Cabrera was not in the Tigers' lineup Friday night at Kansas City because of left biceps tendinitis. He left in the sixth inning Thursday at Minnesota due to the injury.
